WHO WE ARE
Our Purpose, Mission & History
About Us
It is the purpose of the Michigan Black Presbyterian Caucus to combat racism and injustice and to achieve and sustain full participation of its members in the total Church and society through emphasis on the spiritual growth of individual members and promoting growth and strengthening of Black Presbyterian membership in our denomination, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We shall continually focus on concerns stemming from Black religious, cultural, political, and economic traditions, and we shall speak and act on those issues that adversely affect the lives of Black people. We exist as an organization because we want the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to always take its calling and ministry for the Black Community seriously.
Our Purpose & Mission
To provide a safe space to participate in African American cultural experiences.
To advocate for racial and social justice.
To combat institutional racism within the structure of the local and national Presbyterian Church, USA.
Ensure full partnership, representation, and access within the broader church’s decision-making bodies.
Provide a social network of Christian fellowship to serve as a support system among the MBPC churches.
OUR HISTORY IN MOTION

A Matthew 25 Organization
The MBPC is proudly designated a Matthew 25 Organization by the Presbyterian Church (USA) — recognizing congregations and entities committed to dismantling structural racism, eradicating systemic poverty, and building congregational vitality. This designation reflects not just what we believe, but how we act.
